The training, held in Kismayo, Lower Juba, aimed to enhance facilitators’ skills in applying EA$E modules through Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) while integrating financial literacy, leadership, and gender-transformative social dialogues. The sessions followed an experiential and participatory methodology, including group discussions, role plays, simulations, and case studies, enabling participants to translate theory into practice. Key topics covered included:- VSLA formation and governance. Financial management and record keeping. Loan disbursement and share-out processes.Facilitation of gender and social empowerment dialogues. Participants gained hands-on experience in facilitating savings meetings, conducting democratic elections, and managing group dynamics with a focus on inclusivity and transparency. The training produced tangible outcomes such as the development of field-level action plans, improved facilitator confidence, and strengthened teamwork among participants. By linking financial management with social transformation, AVC empowered SADHURO’s staff to effectively implement EA$E activities that enhance women’s participation in decision-making, household harmony, and community resilience. |

The assignment aimed to generate evidence on the interlinkages between climate change, nutrition, and child vulnerability in Somalia and to strengthen national and partner capacity for climate-resilient nutrition programming. AVC led the desk review and synthesis of climate-nutrition data, identifying key shocks, stressors, and adaptation pathways affecting food security, child health, and nutrition outcomes. The consultancy also supported workshop design, agenda development, participant engagement, and facilitation, ensuring participation from government institutions, UN agencies, and civil society stakeholders. The consultancy aimed to assess the vulnerability of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) systems to climate variability and develop practical recommendations for climate-resilient service delivery. AVC’s multidisciplinary team conducted extensive desk reviews, field surveys, community consultations, and stakeholder workshops across multiple districts, generating critical data on water resource availability, sanitation infrastructure, and the effects of droughts and floods on community health and livelihoods. The assignment produced vulnerability and risk maps, institutional capacity analyses, and evidence-based adaptation strategies tailored to Jubaland’s socio-environmental context. It also facilitated coordination between the Ministry, WASH Cluster members, and local authorities, strengthening the planning framework for climate-responsive WASH programming. Key deliverables included an Inception Report, Draft and Final Assessment Reports, and a high-level validation workshop that informed state-level policy and investment priorities. Through this consultancy, AVC reinforced its leadership in conducting complex, climate-focused sectoral assessments in fragile environments, contributing actionable insights for policy formulation, resilience building, and sustainable water resource management in southern Somalia. |

Location: Mogadishu, Somalia Budget: USD 32,000 Description of Assignment: Ayaan Visionary Consulting (AVC) was engaged by IRC Somalia to deliver a comprehensive livelihoods and empowerment module as part of the GAASHAN consortium project in Mogadishu. Under the EASE (Economic & Social Empowerment) framework, AVC facilitated the formation and strengthening of 20 Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) involving female- and youth-led groups, provided tailored business skills training (covering market assessment, business planning, savings, bookkeeping, and digital literacy), and organized structured group discussions and mentoring for improved financial resilience. Key activities included facilitation of weekly VSLA meetings, linkages with local micro‐markets and suppliers, market engagement sessions with traders and service providers, peer-learning forums, and the design and rollout of mini-business grants for selected members. Through the intervention, participants reported improved savings habits, emerging micro-enterprises (e.g., tailoring, kiosks, agro‐trading), stronger community networks, and greater access to local markets. AVC also supported monitoring of group dynamics, gender inclusion (ensuring at least 60% female membership), and coordination with local authorities for sustainability. The assignment ended with a validation workshop, documentation of lessons learned, and a final report disseminated to the consortium and donor to inform scale-up of the approach. |

The consultancy aimed to equip community facilitators and project staff with the knowledge and skills necessary to establish and manage sustainable VSLA groups that promote economic self-reliance, household resilience, and women’s empowerment. AVC designed and delivered a training program tailored to local contexts, covering modules such as group formation, leadership and governance, financial literacy, record keeping, loan management, and savings mobilization. The sessions also incorporated practical simulations, case studies, and role plays to strengthen participant understanding and ensure effective application in community settings. Through this assignment, AVC strengthened the capacity of local actors to manage and monitor VSLA operations while enhancing community participation and ownership in livelihood activities. The training contributed to Zamzam Foundation’s broader goal of promoting sustainable income generation and financial inclusion among vulnerable households in Hirshabelle.
